Understanding Singapore’s Variable Capital Companies

Singapore’s role on the world financial stage got considerably brighter on October 1, 2018, when the city-state’s parliament passed a bill authorizing the creation of Variable Capital Companies or VCCs. The legislation has been heralded as a “game changer” for the fund management industry, not only in Singapore, but across the Asia-Pacific region and, by many accounts, globally.

In mid-January 2020, 20 investment funds including newly incorporated fund entities and existing funds in other jurisdictions seeking re-domiciliation in Singapore, have adopted the new Variable Capital Companies (VCC) structure.
