Since providers have a wealth of structured and unstructured data available in their own EHRs, Dr. Kharrazi and colleagues from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health designed their study to evaluate the ability of EHR data to predict risk. The study discussed in this whitepaper was only an early step in evaluating the potential value of information found in the EHR for risk stratification. Ongoing work by this team is underway to find new insights to continuously improve the use of EHR data and other sources of information to risk stratify populations.
