From AI Awareness to AI Transformation

Almost every business is now exploring artificial intelligence (AI) in some form, whether that’s trialing chatbots, testing generative AI tools or evaluating potential use cases. Yet despite the enthusiasm, many organizations are still focused on the outdated question of what AI can do for them.

The more fundamental question is how organizations can redesign their processes to enable the safe, reliable and scalable use of AI in the long term. This was one of the key themes at a recent event in Hong Kong co-hosted by SS&C GlobeOp and the AI Society, where we challenged the audience to consider how they move from experimenting with AI towards a genuine transformation, embedded with, and powered by, AI.

Over the last few years, AI tools have evolved rapidly from early digital assistants helping people complete specific jobs, to today’s agents carrying out sophisticated tasks with increasing autonomy. While this level of development is having a real, positive impact on all kinds of business operations, the tools are still being deployed in isolation, working on individual tasks.

As organizations introduce more of these single-task agents into their operations, managing them becomes increasingly complex. Without the right controls, governance and coordination, the number of agents can quickly grow faster than the organization's ability to manage them effectively. This is why we believe the next phase of AI adoption will be defined by agentic orchestration.

In simple terms, agentic orchestration means that rather than viewing AI as a collection of standalone tools, organizations should think about how AI agents, digital workers, systems and people can work together across an entire business process. The challenge then becomes coordinating all of these moving parts into a cohesive whole. SS&C WorkHQ addresses this by acting as a central hub for the organization, orchestrating AI agents, digital workers, systems and people so they can work together seamlessly across the entire process.

SS&C as Customer Zero

Fund management is a highly regulated sector that requires critical measurement in security, governance, compliance and auditability, an environment where AI cannot be treated as a black box. As such, organizations need to be confident that processes remain transparent, controlled and explainable, and our experience at SS&C provides that confidence. We are one of the world’s largest and most complex fund administration and asset servicing businesses, but we have more than 3,000 automation agents supporting our operations in every part of the business today, resulting in $200m in cost savings.

These are tangible results that make a real mark on the balance sheet, and they have reinforced an important lesson—successful AI adoption is rarely about pursuing a single transformative project.

The future is not about removing people from the process, but about enabling them to work more effectively with AI—a process SS&C started several years ago. By engaging SS&C services, you are already engaging with intelligent automation. We’re just conducting the show behind the scenes.
